Q: What age levels do you train?

A: Currently, we are training young athletes from age 7 to college for the Speed Academy . We also offer adult training and individual coaching for all ages.

Q: My child is young but has advanced athleticism for their age. Will their training take this into account?

A: Yes, the Lee Taft Speed Academy designs programs based on the developmental and physical abilities of each athlete. Youth develop at different rates, and chronological age may not be the best dictator of training. We take this into account when designing programs.

Q: What is the normal training day/week like?

A: Most athletes train 2-4 times per week. They choose a time that fits them best, from 3:00p to 9:00p, where they can be in a group with others with similar abilities. The sessions run for one hour, during which time the athlete will do a proper warm-up followed by muscle activation and dynamic stretching.  After the warm-up period, the athletes will perform lateral and linear movement training, and then power and strength training. Some sessions may include conditioning at the end.

Q: What happens if I sign up for the yearly program but I have one sports season where I can only come one or two times per week?

A: This is a common issue. To avoid detraining during the season, it is recommended that athletes continue to come at least once or twice a week. We take the athletes training status into consideration during this time, and if extensive physical exertion is not beneficial, we can train the neuromuscular system or offer exercises and training methods that enhance recovery and make the athlete feel better. Even without coming three times per week, the cost per session does not increase very much. In fact, you could miss a full three months of the yearly session and still be almost equivalent to paying for only three 3-month sessions.

Q: What is the purpose of the $50 one-time assessment fee?

A: All enrolled athletes in the Lee Taft Speed Academy will be initially assessed in areas of flexibility, movement patterns, strength and speed. They will also be videotaped and assessed using Dartfish video software, a state-of-the-art training tool that can be used to analyze movement patterns. This software is expensive but is an excellent way to provide feedback to the coaches and athletes to help maximize performance.

Q: Why is the yearly program the preferred program?

A: Training is like going to school. The body learns in stages and can not be rushed or bypass certain critical stages. The yearly program is set up to be the most cost effective for the reason of allowing all participants the opportunity to train properly. All athletes should be training in-season regardless of common philosophies. The yearly program allows an athlete to come in and recover from a demanding game or practice and feel better physically after the workout. This will allow the athlete to stay fresh throughout the season.
